LIGHTBOX – Laura Wennstrom

August 27, 2015

Our very first LIGHTBOX artist, Laura Wennstrom has done a fantastic job with this beautiful window display.  Her work often incorporates discarded or forgotten items that she gives new life to in her creative works. Can you guess the key ingredient for this work of art?

Before Laura created this work in LIGHTBOX, she approached us for some of our test t-shirts to use as materials in her artwork. Since Weiskamp Screen Printing is mostly known for our t-shirts, Laura was inspired to create this installation using old t-shirts and cotton fabric to make a quilt! The quilt is hung behind custom designed vinyl patterns on the face of the window.  We love her use of colors and patterns, as well as the depth she created by using the window face as an integral piece in her design. The entire display is 10 x 20 feet, and can be seen from our 312 S Neil St. storefront from January 19 – May 1, 2015.

Laura holds an MFA in New Media from the University of Illinois her in Urbana-Champaign.  Visit laurawennstrom.com and her Instagram to see more of her awesome artwork!

A BIG thank you to 40 North for their involvement and support of the LIGHTBOX program!
