“Estranged Love” by Melonie Mulkey is the second art installation featured in our LIGHTBOX program. Melonie’s practice is based in photography and sculpture using familiar items in our daily lives.
In this installation, inspired by floriology, she has used fabric, furniture, inkjet photography, and origami to create a surreal domestic environment that uses repetition and pattern to reference time and memory. The entire work is approximately 119″ x 186″ x 44″, and can be viewed from our 312 S Neil St. storefront from May 4 – August 1, 2015.
The staff here at Weiskamp was delighted to discover that each desk had one of her delicate origami flowers waiting for us after she finished the installation in LIGHTBOX. Thanks Melonie!
Melonie has a degree from the University of Colorado Denver and has exhibited nationally. She lives here in Champaign, IL. Check out more of her inspiring artwork at www.meloniemulkey.com and her Instagram!
