Sophie McMahan Art on Tees and Totes

September 2, 2015

If you’ve been in Chambana a while, chances are you’ve seen artwork, t-shirts, pins and more by Sophie McMahan around town being worn and at places like Furniture Lounge, Art Coop, and Cafeteria & Co. Her style is entirely one-of-a-kind, and it really makes a bold impression! In fact, one of our Weiskampers received 8 compliments from total strangers within one night of wearing a freshly screen-printed t-shirt with art by Sophie McMahan.

Just last week, we printed a variety of Sophie’s designs on tees and totes that will be available this fall at our local Pygmalion Made Fest, the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago, and to stock a boutique clothing store in Los Angeles!

Here’s a quick clip of one of her t-shirt designs being screen printed in-house at our downtown Champaign location.

Sophie’s artwork is inspired by her fascination with 50’s & 60’s American culture.  The message she conveys with her art is how advertisements and other publications of that time period portrayed a rosy view of life, which didn’t tell the whole truth about the lives of real people during the 50’s & 60’s.  Her artwork highlights this discrepancy in a visually beautiful and curiosity-provoking way.  Check out her Etsy store  to see all of her awesome creative products!
